Fred Sirevåg was on a hike near Preikestolen, also called Pulpit Rock. This is a widely popular destination in Norway due to its breathtaking scenery, specifically viewed from the cliff that rises around 2,000 feet above the fjord.
All was was going well for Sirevåg, who was photographing his surroundings, but he soon noticed a scene that made him extremely uncomfortable. Parents had allowed their baby to crawl near the edge of the massive cliff.
“They let the baby crawl near the edge and they even walked back a few steps so that they could take pictures of the baby with Preikestolen in the background,” he reported to The Local Norway. Then added, “I think it was very creepy. The baby could have fallen in any direction. I think it was very irresponsible.”
However it is not unusual for adult hikers to go right up to the edge of the cliff.
Since the photo went viral people have been suggesting a fence be put up, but many who frequent this location say that it is out of the question. Hikers have responded saying that would make for an even more dangerous visit, because most visitors would end up just climbing the fence for photo opportunities and a better view.
Were you shocked by this image, or was mom close enough to keep baby out of harm’s way?
