One of the top things parents often do when they have a baby is they organize a christening. It’s a great day to celebrate the birth of your child, and have all the family get to know the little one. However, like the baby shower, you would have organized during the pregnancy, the arranging part can be stressful! Here are some things you need to sort when arranging a christening for your baby.
You need to buy a lovely outfit for your baby
One thing you need to sort when you decide to have a christening is what your baby is going to wear. Outfits have changed over time, and although it’s still important to make sure it’s white, it doesn’t have to be a traditional gown. You can find many stores which will sell great outfits for your little one. Or you can look online to find a beautiful outfit for your baby. Some parents pass down the outfit that they wore, or one of their other children wore, for the special day.
You need to talk to the vicar about the day
Another thing you should not forget to sort when arranging a christening for your baby is you need to speak to the priest about the day. They will talk to you about what you will need to do before the christening. They may expect you to go to several services before the christening if you aren’t a regular church-goer. You may need to go with the godparents so that you can rehearse the ceremony before the day.
You need to decide on numbers
Another thing you need to decide when arranging a christening for your baby is you need to decide on how many people you will have there. You may just want a few select family and friends for the special day. Other people tend to have a large number to come and celebrate the christening. You should check to make sure there is enough church seating for the number you want to have. You might have to buy or borrow more seats if you want more people to attend the ceremony. It can also affect how much food and drink you need to buy for everyone.
You need to choose godparents
You need also to make sure you decide who you want to be godparents for the christening. It can be hard to choose who to have for the special day. A lot of people go for a sibling or a cousin to be a godparent for the child. You may decide to have friends instead to take on the godparent role. It’s traditional to have three godparents; two women and one man for a girl, and two men and one woman for a boy. But you can vary from this if you want to as long as you don’t end up with too many!
You will also need to make sure you decorate the venue you will be heading to after. You can get so many great decorations you can put up to celebrate the christening. Also, remember if you don’t want a religious christening, a lot of people have baby naming ceremonies instead. These are easy to organize and will still ensure you celebrate the new baby with your family.
