Distracted Driving: A Concern For Everyone

Written by:  Jamie

There are many ways that a driver can be distracted on the roads. That is why it is important for all people to be aware of what can be dangerous for a driver on the road.

Types Of Distracted Driving

Since people can become distracted when they are driving, they need to always pay attention to what they are doing. Ending distracted driving is everyone’s responsibility, and here is a list of the types of distracted driving that can cause serious problems.

  1. Weather Conditions – The weather can play a huge part in how a person is able to drive. They will want to be concerned when there is any type of inclement weather. This includes rain, snow, and ice. Fog is also a big contributor to bad weather conditions.
  2. Traffic – Anytime that there is a lot of traffic, it is extremely important that a driver pay close attention to what is happening around them on the road. They must obey all traffic signals and rules. Accidents may cause traffic to back up, so a driver must be careful when this type of incident may occur.
  3. Cell Phones – Making calls while driving is distracting and illegal. Texting also falls into this category. It is important to have a headset if a person is going to need to make calls while driving.
  4. Putting On Makeup – When someone is putting on makeup while driving, they can be a hazard on the road. They need to be sure that they are paying attention to what they are doing while they are driving.
  5. Alcohol And Drugs – Being under the influence of alcohol and drugs is distracting. It is also against the law with high penalties. People are risking their driving by taking part in these activities. Many who have been guilty of driving under the influence have gone through a lot of grief in paying restitution and court fees. In many cases, their driver’s license is suspended or revoked, along with other punishment and penalties.
  6. Passengers – Loud noises from passengers, including pets can cause a distraction for drivers. It is important that a driver make sure that the noises in the vehicle are kept to a minimum. If they see that a problem is occurring, they should pull off the road safely and stop the vehicle. It is important that the driver put on their blinkers when they do this. Having a child in the car can be trying at times. They could be crying for one reason or another. Sometimes they are bored, or sometimes they are sick.  How to help your baby fight off a cold is a great reference for dealing with this type of issue.
  7. Tired Driving – Not getting enough sleep can make a driver distracted. It is important that a person gets the proper amount of rest so that they are not a danger to themselves or others on the road. If they are traveling for long periods at a time, they should be sure to pull off at rest areas to get out and walk around a bit, use the restroom, and get some fresh air. This will help them to stay alert when they are driving in order to keep themselves and others safe when they are on the roadways.

Penalties For Distracted Driving

The penalties for distracted driving are very high. This is because a distracted driver becomes a danger for themselves, their passengers, and other drivers on the road. Making sure that people are following the rules on the road has saved many lives, and people that don’t follow the rules will be caught and punished accordingly.

The Future Punishments For Distracted Driving

In the future, the punishments and penalties for distracted driving will get increasingly tougher. This is to ensure that the roads are safe for all those that are law abiding citizens. Anytime a person wants to drive, they should make sure that they are capable of doing so. It is their responsibility to make sure that they understand all the rules of the road in the areas that they are planning to travel through. Some states may have different laws, and they need to be followed at all times.

If everyone that drives pays attention to their driving on a regular basis, the roads will be a lot safer for everyone. And this will result in fewer lives lost.
