Cyber-Racism: Mexican-American Boy Sings National Anthem

Written by:  Jamie

Sometimes I think thousands of years from now, when people are trying to sift through our current society’s remains, they will uncover our social media as record and gauge of our social climate…and they are going to think we were assholes.

Here isĀ  10-year-old Sebastien De La Cruz singing the national anthem for Game 3 of the NBA finals in San Antonio:

I feel like social media has become the virtual windshield. Somehow when driving, that distance and separation of being in a vehicle gives us enough anonymity where we respond to others in ways we would never if we were standing next to each other without the barrier and glass. Our computer screens have added another channel for socially unacceptable rage, but like with road rage, no matter how much you feel you are separating yourself from the intimate act of communicating with a person, the confrontation via car or internet is still communication between human beings and can be very hurtful and damaging not only to an individual, but our entire society. I believe there are some things human beings should not be desensitized to.
