When Rebecca, a mother of 3 from St. Catharines, Ontario, took her one year old to see Santa he got a little cranky waiting in line. As any nursing mom would do, Rebecca started nursing her son to comfort him. She joked that she should see if she could nurse him through the pictures. When the photographer and Santa were completely on board they went for it.
Rebecca says that she has never been made to feel unwelcome when nursing in public but is always up for more normalization of breastfeeding. Being from the same region as Rebecca I can say it’s a pretty welcoming place for nursing moms. In my own 20 months of nursing, I never had a problem either.
The picture turned out pretty amazing. Santa really got into it, saying in his 40 years of playing Santa he’d never received this request. Of course, it’s stirring up controversy about whether it’s appropriate or not. Baby’s happy; Mom’s happy; Santa’s happy. What else matters?
