HOW TO BUY A BABY ROCKER

Written by:  Jamie

A baby rocker or bouncer can be a real lifesaver in the first few months of welcoming your child into the world. As newborn babies are generally known to cry or coo when experiencing any form of discomfort, you could save yourself a lot of headaches if you get your baby a rocker that lets you sit him/her in comfortably. Getting a rocker is especially necessary when you are a very busy parent or have to do other things that require much attention.

In the early days of your baby’s life, a well-built rocker or bouncer could provide a risk-free and snug place for your mini-me to rest, nap, lie, or play. We understand that having a newborn shouldn’t have to stop you from engaging in other vital activities, hence, the need for a portable baby bouncer chair. This type of chair allows you to move your baby about wherever you go. Whether it’s in or around the house, a portable baby bouncer or rocker could be the investment you’ll forever be grateful you made.

So, whether you’ve been looking to get your newly born baby a rocker, or you intend to purchase one before your baby is finally born, here are some tips on how to choose the right baby rocker for your child.

There are quite many characteristics to consider when choosing a rocker for your baby, but the most important feature has to be its compatibility with your baby’s personality. Much like adults, babies have their likes and dislikes. While some babies may prefer music or visual activities, others prefer to do away with them altogether.

Once you’ve been able to deal with your baby’s type of personality, it becomes a piece of cake to choose a rocker for him/her. And, of course, there are other features to watch out for as well. These features include:

  • Type of seat

Since the rocker is going to serve as your baby’s home, you have to make sure it has a seat that can provide the needed comfort and inclination for your child. A deeper seat may provide additional comfort for your baby, making your baby feel as though he/she is being cuddled by the seat’s fabrics.

  • Additional entertainment

If your baby happens to enjoy being soothed with audio, visual or audio-visual items, it could be really frustrating for them to sit in silence for a long time. This is a vital reason to choose a stroller that has features which your baby will find entertaining. A variety of rockers also has features that allow you to play music from a phone or an MP3 player. A rocker with this feature is usually preferable as it allows your baby to listen to his/her favorite songs.

  • Stimulating or Soothing sensations?

Depending on whether you want your baby’s rocker to offer a stimulating or soothing sensation, you might want to do away with the toys and sounds that come with some rockers. If you want some stimulation for your child, these things are worthy inclusions, otherwise, they are not really needed.

  • Source of power

Should you decide to opt for a rocker that is powered mechanically, you’ll have to find ways to power it up. These type of rockers are restricted to certain places because, due to the unavailability of power sources, they cannot be used outdoors. Settling for a rocker that runs on batteries is not any better as there is a good chance the batteries will run out more often. A rocker that offers both power options hereby becomes the only way of escape. This way, you can have the rocker plugged in when indoors, and running on batteries when outdoors or moving about.

  • Movability

Since you’ll most probably do a lot of moving around the house, it can be beneficial to have a rocker that can be picked up and taken with you easily, so that your little one is never too far away from you. Many lightweight rockers are available on the market, and some can even be folded up for easy packing.

  • Easy To Clean

There is no disputing the fact that babies are generally messy, and there is no way they will clean up their own mess by themselves. It therefore becomes your responsibility to ensure that the baby’s hygiene is in check. The baby’s rocker, as well as all other clothing items, should always be clean to make sure that your baby stays healthy and free from all forms of diseases and infections. While having to do this occasionally could become quite tiresome for you, it’s easier when your baby’s stroller (and other clothing items) are easy to clean.

  • Safety:

In spite of its coming last on the list, probably the most important factor to consider is that your baby is totally safe in the rocker. You should always choose a rocker that has a safety strap to keep your baby secure, and has a good headrest that will protect your baby’s head and neck. Generally, all rockers come with manuals that state the age, weight, and height guidelines you need to observe to ensure total safety.

Although a baby rocker is often an excellent way to provide temporary care for your baby, it is vital to note that it is never a good idea to leave your baby unattended to for long.
