Is Benidorm a family friendly destination?

Written by:  Jamie

When you think of Benidorm, what do you see? Sun? Sea? Sand? Perhaps you focus on the region’s popularity with tourists, specifically families with young children and young people celebrating their stag or hen weekend? Holidays to Benidorm are popular all year round, but how suitable is Benidorm as a holiday destination for children and their parents?

Why Benidorm?

When Benidorm became host to some of the world’s first package holidays in the mid 20th century, it seemed like a logical choice; the sun was warm, the beaches were beautiful and the locals were happy to work with holiday companies to accommodate the region’s many tourists. Because of this, there are plenty of opportunities for children to have fun and a number of attractions to visit that will also appeal to parents and grandparents.

What is there to do?

One of the best places for families to visit is Terra Natura, a zoo which is right next to the theme park Terra Mitica. Kids will love to explore this huge zoo and the parents can rest assured that the kids will be able to learn about some of the world’s most exotic creatures whilst they have fun. Elsewhere, Mundomar, a waterpark offers guests the opportunity to see and meet a number of amazing creatures, including dolphins, sea lions and even, parrots. The park is large and is full of a number of pools that accommodate the park’s many residents and they are just waiting for your children to discover them! The centre of Benidorm provides ample opportunities for shopping, with the Benidorm Market and the large La Marina shopping mall on the outskirts of the city proving to be  very popular with tourists looking for mementos of their holiday and gifts to take back home. The beaches in Benidorm are just perfect for families, and the two main beaches are called Levante and Poniente. Levante is particularly favoured by tourists, and can get quite busy during the day, while Poniente, in Benidorm’s ‘old town’, is much quieter and usually preferred by locals. Head there to wind down after a long day shopping and perhaps take in one of the many beach side restaurants along the way. While Benidorm may be popular with a certain type of tourist, it will always be a family destination to families all around the world. Have you holidayed in Benidorm recently?
