Back to School Guide: Designing School Lockers to Fit Your Unique Style

Written by:  Jamie

Five go by rules to get your locker looking straight fire, and being the talk of the school.

We all know that school lockers are way more than just a place to store your books. It’s where you hang out, get ready for your next class, and fix up your face before you run into the curve from your crush. Here are the five rules to make your school locker look like a palace fit for the queen you are.

  1. Cover it up

Use vinyl drawer covers, wrapping paper, or craft paper to line your school locker. This makes everything you stick up during the year super easy to remove. Choose a solid color so that any additions you add pop. Depending on the vibe you’re trying to create, using natural textures or solid colors will help accent any other additions. Cut the paper to fit the dimensions of your school locker, remembering to leave holes for the vents.

Make sure that you hang your paper before you add anything else. This will keep the walls of your school locker spick and span come tear down time. It’s also super easy for you to change your backdrop to match the season, or should you find a new decor theme that you like.

  1. Add accents

Add stickers, cut outs, feathers, and photo holders to give your school locker a personalized feel. Choose your design theme early and center all of your extras around that color palette.

Get creative using alphabet fridge magnets or magnetic poetry. Add a small dry erase board to jot notes, or let your friends leave you messages. Magnetic additions are your best friend. They’re easy to move around should you need to reorganize.

  1. Get organized

Use magnetic organizers and optional shelving units to maximize your school locker space.  Find, or make (bust out that washi tape), a magnetic locker mirror to keep your look fresh and on point. Make sure that you hang your mirror at eye level so you can fix any lipgloss hazards low key.

Add some pen caddies and a small makeup pouch that matches your decor to give yourself extra styling room.

  1. Make it personal

Print off all of your favorite snapchat worthy moments and stick them up with tape, magnets, or blue tack. Giving your space a friendly atmosphere, you’ll have people clamoring to get onto your wall of fame. Bonus? Check out pinterest and print off images and quotes that fit your style.

Leave extra gel pens and sticky notes inside your school locker so that you can post quotes from your friends. Update the section regularly. Analog Facebook anyone?!

  1. Make it shine

Use battery operated fairy lights, metallic washi tape, or LEDs to make your locker that bit extra. Use clear adhesive hooks to secure your lights to the wall, if they don’t come with their own adhesive. Hide the battery pack behind books for a more natural effect. Make sure that you turn them off before you leave to conserve battery.

Pro Tip: Keep extra batteries in your makeup pouch.
