6 Ways To Make A Wedding With Small Children A Magical One

Written by:  Jamie

Having children at your wedding might not make for an elegant event, but you do want them there. If managed well, little kids can make a wedding more complete, especially if they have a part in it like the flower girl and the ring bearer. Still, having a lot of noisy kids around could prevent other people from enjoying the wedding.

Entertaining children could be a wedding dilemma, but it’s definitely something you can handle. You can plan ahead, as with every other aspect of the wedding, and you’ll get your dream wedding soon enough.

Fortunately, there are several ways in which you can make your wedding child-friendly and magical as well!

Let’s explore some interesting ideas.

  1. Planning Some Outdoor Games

If you’re getting married outdoors, there are several ways to keep the children busy. This will allow them to enjoy the weather yet still have something to do that won’t bother the adults. Hopscotch, Twister, trampolines, and several other games could make this a wedding to remember!

You can also add some classic items such as hula hoops and skipping ropes. As long as the kids understand that they can’t move the toys to the main reception area, you may expect the ceremony to go smoothly.

  1. Arranging Indoor Games

If it’s raining or you’re planning a wedding indoors, there are still many game choices for the little guests to enjoy. Get together some board games, jigsaws, or even some books to help keep them entertained. You can cordon off an area of the main hall or see if there’s a smaller room where the kids can go to play.

  1. Giving Them A Role

Children crave attention, and will often act out in public in order to get it. You can make use of this part of their personality to enhance your wedding setup while making sure the kids stay out of trouble. Give them a role in the wedding, even if it’s as small as distributing confetti bags or handing out favors. They should be old enough to handle such a responsibility but don’t burden them with too much at a time. If some of your siblings or cousins can handle being bridesmaids, you can have them help you pick out some Jr bridesmaid dresses by Azazie.

  1. Helping Them Get Busy With Themed Crafts

Another way to make kids feel like they’re part of a wedding is to give them a crafts table and arrange for wedding-themed projects. They could draw and decorate a cake on paper, or make a wedding dress out of tissues, or just go wild on their own! At the very least, they’ll be expressing their creativity in a contained manner and not on the red carpet.  Here’s a great page for some inspiration at more religious-themed weddings.

  1. Arranging A Separate Table

When it’s time to eat, see if there are enough children of the same age to have their own table. You can use the same crafts table as their dining table. Besides, you can even have them help in changing the settings. It might also be a good idea to have a kids’ menu, with the kind of food children would like. Think fries, nuggets, and pizza instead of the fish, steak, or vegetarian options you have for the adults.

  1. Calling A Professional Entertainer

Ask your wedding planner about hiring a professional children’s entertainer for the event. You might have to stretch the budget a little, but it’ll be worth it if the kids stay out of trouble. A clown, magician, or a balloon modeler might be a good idea. Some companies might even provide an expert who can entertain children with different activities throughout the whole event.
