5 Times you should run a background check

Written by:  Jamie

Background checks are a valuable tool for companies across the world and are easily done at CRB Direct.  Intelligence agencies use them to profile suspects and licensing agencies use them to verify identity and eligibility for licensing. Many people are unaware of the benefits of background checks in their personal lives. However, conducting a quick background search can save you the stress of becoming a victim.

Sadly, caretakers lose their patience often. News stories and hidden cameras expose abuse at the hands of a babysitter. While a background check will not guarantee your baby’s safety, it is a great place to start. If there is anything unusual or questionable, you can address it before you become dependent on the services the person offers.

Criminal History for Dog and House Sitters

Dog and house sitters are alone in your home for extended periods of time. It is always a good idea to background check anyone who will be in your home while you are out-of-town. Regardless of how honest someone appears, when they are left alone in your home you will find out. Unfortunately, that is too late.

Dogs, like small children, are unable to tell their human parents if someone is mean to them or scares them. Finding out the person you trusted hurt you beloved family per or coming home from a vacation to find everything you own gone is not how anyone wants to return. Conducting a quick background check could prevent that.

When You Hire a Handyman or Contractor

There are websites committed to helping people find a trustworthy handyman and/or contractors. However, conducting a background check is easier, less expensive, and faster than signing up for a monthly membership and weeding through reviews on a credible site. Reviews can always be faked. Background checks give a realistic view of an individual behind closed doors.

When You Invest

People often invest without thinking about the background of the investor they are faithfully handing their money to. Many stockbrokers and financial advisors have taken off with investor funds, leaving the people who trusted them shocked and stranded. This might be avoided by completing a simple criminal history screening that returns key criminal history information.

After Meeting Your Next Boyfriend or Girlfriend

When you start dating someone, it is important for you to know as much about that person as possible. In the beginning, neither person has a lot invested making it the best time to figure out if you are a good fit. After being together for a while, it becomes difficult to leave someone, even if they lie about something important.

To avoid this, when you start dating someone, ask them for a background check and tell them you are happy to give them yours as well. Explain to them, it is important you have transparency in your relationship. Of course, there is always a chance they are just great at not getting caught. However, knowing someone’s criminal history should give you an idea of the type of person they are.

Background checks are a worthwhile service that helps protect countless lives, businesses, and homes. While results are not guaranteed, using the results and discretion makes it easier to choose the people you do business with and those who become a major part of your life wisely.
