You finally have the weekend to yourself…what else to do but relax and treat yourself? Pampering and self-care should be the only things on the menu. But what does that entail, and how can you have a satisfactory spa weekend without paying the extortionate prices?
- Make a special playlist
It doesn’t matter what you put on it, from a new genre to the classics – the important thing is that you can relax while listening to it. Whether you secretly choose Justin Bieber’s latest hits, Celine Dion’s ballads, or Dolly Parton’s old hits, just be sure to enjoy yourself and include only feel-good music that will have you dancing around in your face mask.
- Get your hair done
One of the simple pleasures in life. Relax in the comfy chair at your local hairdresser, and enjoy a head massage and mini self-transformation.
For a little twist: How about jumping on the coloured hair trend and getting some highlights? Or instead of getting a cut or trim, how about opting for hair extensions?
Whatever you go for, you’ll be sure to feel like a new person afterwards.
- Dress for the occasion
Dressing to relax is a great way to get yourself in the mood, and to make your experience more authentic and enjoyable. Pick your favourite dressing gown, a fluffy towel, and maybe even fuzzy slippers. Shopping for the perfect thing to wear is of course a great option too.
You don’t have to stop at dressing yourself up either – how about your house? Set up some scented candles around the bathroom or bedroom to really get you in the mood. Just don’t forget about them!
- Hair & face masks
Few of us have the time to go through a full-on pampering beauty routine every day, or even every week. However, this is just the opportunity to do so. This could include facial masks, a peeling gel, or maybe even a hair mask – anything to make you shine and feel like a star.
If you’re not sure on what to do, have a look on YouTube, where there are plenty of beauty tutorial videos to inspire you. If you want to go the extra mile, you could even make your own mask at home. There are many recipes using simple and healthy ingredients that you can give a try. Who doesn’t love the idea of rubbing avocado onto their face – and there’s no complaining if some happens to go in your mouth.
- Get a Mani/Pedi
Whether you prefer doing this yourself at home, or going to a salon, getting a mani/pedi is a great pick me up and sure to relax you. Break out that gel kit that you never really use, pick a new colour, and do your nails during a Netflix binge – who said you can’t multitask?
Instead of just ‘plain’ coloured nails, you could even try your hand at a little nail art – if it goes wrong, just call it ‘abstract’ and you’re ready to impress! If you need inspiration, YouTube has you covered.
