why sometimes it is good to get lost

Hole in the Wall Burger on their pretzel bread. (This photo brought to you by Bun Boy Eats LA. A must read for any foodie in Los Angeles.)

It’s no secret- I have no sense of direction.

GPS was invented for people like me, and ironically I still have yet to own a vehicle with built-in GPS, or the device itself.

Anyway, a few days ago I managed to get lost with the with the kids again. We were driving around aimlessly down an alley-like side street when the clouds parted and this lovely sight appeared:

That is right, we literally found ‘a hole in the wall’…..

This place was in such a random location it had to be good.

My dad is quite the burger connoisseur, so we decided to test out our little find when my parents came down for a visit.

I was unanimous- Hole in the Wall is our new favorite burger joint.
So the next time you get lost, instead of getting stressed or upset, take it as an opportunity to get to know the unfamiliar….

You may be surprised at what you find.

  1. I need to get lost more often. I’ve lived in my city for 20+ years and it’s sad how little I know about it. My husband knows the streets like the back of his hand because he spent his youth just driving around. That’s the best way to find out where you are and what’s around you.

  2. I have the same affliction and likewise have no GPS device.

And that burger looks SO good! Here’s hoping Ginger gets us lost when I’m in LA. ;)

  3. Thanks for the shout out!! Love your website!

Stumbling across places like this is always an adventure. We’ve found a few places just by driving around that have become our favorites. We’ve also discovered some new favorite places by using coupons in a big coupon book I buy every year. And that’s just in the small city/area I live in.

Oh yeah, I have to agree with Spank…that burger looks awesome!!!

  6. That is exactly the kind of burger that makes me almost regret going vegetarian! Nice find, and good job making at least one person jealous…though it sounds like it’s more than one. ;)

PS I emailed you a few days ago but wasn’t sure if you got it. I hope it wasn’t out of line to do so!

    • Of course it wasn’t out of line. Did you use my @iamnotthebabysitter address? That one isn’t working. I’ll email you the one that I have to use right now.

      • oops, yes, I used that one. Sorry, that was the one I found when I searched for “email”.

Thank you! It’s not that it was anything important, it was just something I didn’t want to post in public. :) and between you and I, I think Kendall Hoover is a spambot. Of course I’ve been wrong before!

        • LOL I’ve actually written to Kendall. LOL I thought that at first, too. She is just promoting her editing company. Something I need. I’m going to use her so she is free to promote on here.

          • !!!!! Oh no!

My apologies. So sorry Kendall!! This is what I get for opening my big mouth…lol

  7. One of my favorite posts of yours so far!
    Can’t wait for more!

When your blog has too many followers to pretend it’s okay because no one’s going to see it.

My kids and I have been on a few long road-trips without my husband so my Mom insisted on getting me a GPS even though we belong to CAA and get Trip-Tiks Travel Maps(http://www.caasco.com/Travel/Maps-and-TripTik/TripTik-Customized-Maps-and-Routes.aspx). On a trip to Wilmington, NC the GPS kept telling me to turn left except that the road we were on was adjacent the Cape Fear River and turning left would put me in it. On our way to Myrtle Beach, SC the GPS took us off the interstate and through some beautiful back roads but if we had any sort of car trouble we would have been screwed as there wasn’t a house/business/gas station in sight! Now, I use my Trip-Tiks and if I get lost I figure that’s what strangers are for.

Mmmm, pretzel bread. That burger looks tasty!

PS – Your boys are adorable!

    • Thanks Carolyn! Oh my gosh I am going to look that up right now. Thanks for the heads up! Hah, strangers so far have been waaay more helpful than Siri or my frozen iPhone map.

  9. No comments on your most recent post…yeah, I can guess why. :D But I feel like I have so much to say about that one! I’ll save it for the email. lol

    • Did you get my email from my other account? CHeck your junk mail. it goes in there. LOL and yes no one is stepping into this one. Well, on this blog’s Facebook page everyone chimed in.

      • So weird…no, I didn’t get one! Can you try again? I don’t see one in my spam either, but I might have deleted it by accident without realizing it was from a human. :)

Also weird: when I tried to post on your other post, no comment form loaded, so I assumed you turned off comments for that one. That’s what I meant by “no comments”…it loads now fine though. Maybe the internet hates me. lol
