When to Be Proud of Our Children

bf1

A story was told to me a few nights ago about two brothers and their love for each other.

This is a story of hope and love led by example of the most unfiltered,  precious, and discerning people on the planet- children.

Parents tend to boast about their children’s Western accomplishments. Various awards are given out for excellence in academics, sports, and the arts.  We all know, or are guilty ourselves, of bragging about physical attributes of our children. How many of us have spouted off the growth chart percentiles of our children, even knowing the chart itself is BS? We are a society driven on competition, and we teach this to our children at a young age.

However, this video reminded me that my children could grow up to be the most handsome, rich, and wise men on the planet, but without empathy and compassion for others, they will have nothing.

My boys, of course, are empathetic and loving people, but this was a reminder to always keep the main focus of life about love. Western achievements fall short of the big picture.

Don’t believe me? Watch the video below.

  2. Thank you so much for posting this. What a beautifully, inspiring story. My kids will be watching this as soon as I can compose my tears!

BTW, I wanted to share with you a pro-breastfeeding post I wrote on my blog. Hope you don’t mind that you were one of the names I mentioned along with my facebook friend Katie who got harassed at LACMA. Thank you for continuing to stand up for what you feel is right. From one breastfeeding mother to another, thank you.
