Early on in our trip, we decided to have a company take us on a few tours around Cape Town. Our first stop was to The Winelands.
We had lunch in Franschhoek (some us ate, some of us took the time and shopped)…
And finally we ended at the Cheetah Outreach where we all learned about this breed of dog (Anatolian Shepherd) that is helping save the cheetah.
We also were given the opportunity to pet the cheetahs in the sanctuary:
What we learned during out adventure is that no one in our family is really fit for tours. We like exploring on our own. Don’t get us wrong, the tours were lovely and we had a great time. However, if I was to do it over again we would like to pick our own wineries and spend as much time as we wished at each location.

Ok Jamie, two things…
one, I laughed when you said your family is not a “tour” kind of family. Rob and I have taken the kids on exactly two different tours and BOTH TIMES it was horrible. Not the tour itself, just trying to wrangle our kids to comply with the tour, the schedule, etc. I totally understand as our family is definitely a “go at our own pace and do what we want” kind of family. (and don’t even get me started about that one time Rob and I went on an ATV Mud Ride tour. We went at a snails pace and had to stop no more than twenty times for the folks who didn’t understand how to drive an ATV, and who kept getting “stuck.” We were all, um no, we need an open field, free reign, we want to jump our ATVs at least ten feet and yes we will be willing to sign an “at your own risk” disclosure just please don’t make us go single file on this tour ever again.)
And since this comment is getting long, I will end it by saying NUMBER TWO: I could not be more jealous of someone more than I am right now. I have been OBSESSED with cheetahs for as long as I can remember. When I was young, I would read books about them and cry, because I SO LOVED THEM. To pet one would make (one of my) dreams come true, so I’m pretty envious that you got to pet one of those amazing creatures
