I saw this meme getting passed around on Facebook, and it makes me kind of want to say a thing.
You see, we sciencey people, we kind of have a love/hate relationship with memes. On the one hand, they can be really good at visually or succinctly illustrating a scientific concept in a way that often scientists cannot. But by virtue of their succinctness, they
sometimes often oversimplify what is actually a complicated issue, or … Keep Reading!!!
Richard Scarry has created more than 300 children books in his career, dating back to 1949. He’s been quietly re-writing many of them, to adjust to society’s growing understanding and acceptance of gender roles and cultural relations. In fact, the changes have been there since 1991 and no one has taken much notice. It was Alan Taylor, a senior photo editor at The Atlantic, who noticed the changes in his child’s version of Best Word Book Ever and posted them … Keep Reading!!!
Halloween may be over but Target’s costume flyer is still getting attention. Once again, Target shows what an inclusive company they are. Lexington, Kentucky has come up with a genius way to fill local food banks. From November 16 – December 18, if you receive a parking ticket you can pay it off with canned goods.
The “Food for Fines” program has been hugely successful in the past. Last year, over 6,200 cans of food were accepted as payment for 600 meter citations. This year they have expanded the program to all parking violations in hopes of increasing that amount.

This Christmas, homeless kids in New York City will receive a special surprise thanks to Carol Suchman.
Carol was recently walking past a toy store, in the West Village, and noticed their “Going Out of Business” sign. While most might make a note to go back and save on their own Christmas shopping, Carol thought to just buy out the entire store.
After some negotiation, she bought thousands of toys, art and school supplies, and … Keep Reading!!!

If it was up to your kids, you’d probably be living on a farm, surrounded by sheep, cows, horses, donkeys, and even pigs… They would never run out of things to do, nor four legged friends to play with. However, quite possibly thankfully, that isn’t an option for most families. But your kids are still going to be asking you (constantly) for a pet. So here’s some tips on how to take them up on that offer, without … Keep Reading!!!
Your unborn child can become an artist before even entering the world. Unborn Artists created a kit to help you make a completely unique abstract painting of your baby’s movements. The best part is that the money from the kits goes to SOS Children Villages.
What a great shower gift this would make, and much easier to display than a belly cast.… Keep Reading!!!
Photographer Suzie Blake wanted to do a photo project that showed the realities of what day to day breastfeeding looks like. She stripped away the make-up, the fancy hair, and the pretty backdrops to get real and raw. Suzie started with a self-portrait of an over tired-mom and reached out on Facebook looking for other moms to participate.

When superhero day came, at a Missouri school, 4-year-old Josie knew exactly who she wanted to be – herself! Josie had been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in June 2013. Nine months later she was in remission.
It was her mom, Alyssa, who originally suggested the costume choice.

We were going through her closet the night before and she didn’t really have anything with any kind of superhero stuff on it, so I asked her,
Are you having some minor family problems? Perhaps you’re not as close as you used to be? If this is the case then read these three ways that you can improve family life:
One of my top parenting tips is to make sure you’re eating as a family. If you feel a bit distant, it might be because you don’t have family time at the dinner table. You could be cooking meals at different times for … Keep Reading!!!
