Advocacy: How to Handle Unexpected Media Attention (Page 2)

<--back to page one In our case, Time wasn’t necessarily advocating for anything, so the next most identifiable person or thing to that cover would have been the subjects on the cover. That, mixed with a subjective interpretation of the image created a modern-day witch hunt. Most took the tagline that accompanied the image as advocacy for a certain style of parenting, and they assumed that I would say my style of parenting is superior to mainstream society, which isn't true of my … [Read more...]

Police Station Visit- LAPD

IMG_5930

The boys have been asking to visit a police station for some time, now. Since it was a Saturday (and less crowded), we decided to pop over and let the boys have some fun. Brian made sure they got the full educational (and a bit boring at times...) tour.   Regardless of the slow moments, it was a lot of fun. If you haven't already, definitely check out visiting policies for your local police stations and fire stations. It's a great way to have the family … [Read more...]

Thanks to everyone reading, this is the message I am able to deliver to you: By the end of this week, Argisa, Ethiopia will have clean water! Most of you know that you all raised, over the course of one week, the money we needed for our first phase of the Ethiopia project. That, in and of itself, was a miracle. Jack, from Waves for Water, boarded a plan on December 12, and I have just been informed he has landed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Jack will be bringing 80 Sawyer filters to the … [Read more...]

We want to embrace our traditions and also be able to give back. Here’s our idea: instead of stocking stuffers, let’s put every dollar that would go towards those small gifts towards clean water for our friends in Africa. $10 that would have been spent on stocking stuffers could give life-altering water to ten people. Why is water … [Read more...]

Blogging with Purpose

_MG_3765

It seems everyone and their mother has a blog these days. Some people love that and some people hate the abundance of blogs on the internet. I personally think it is great. I don’t understand why anyone that blogs thinks they have some kind of set claim on the blogging world. A blog is a personal website, anyone can (and should) have one if they want.   Blogs serve so many purposes. It is interesting to me to see how people initially get into blogging and the evolution of their … [Read more...]

We FINALLY moved!!!!!

We've moved! Finally, the moment we have all been waiting for!!!! (And by we, I really mean me..) We have moved out of our desolate suburban neighborhood back to the city! The boys love it, but really don’t get the deal of living in a building with other people. They are obsessed with the elevator....and they love being up so high and watching all of the cars go by. If an ambulance goes by that is extra exciting. My favorite part is that my new bathroom has a shower AND a bath. … [Read more...]
