Yes, unfortunately adoption is trendy. I am very worried about the consequences of adoption being something stylish, rather than a creation of a family. (Fact: Ethiopian adoptions doubled following Angelina Jolie’s adoption of her daughter.) International and transracial adoptions are quickly sweeping over Hollywood. As family that adopted internationally and transracially, I understand the reasoning behind intercountry adoption and embracing a child of any color. However, it … [Read more...]
Mother-at-Arms: Stephanie Decker

Many people have heard about the Mother who lost her legs saving her children during a disastrous Henryville Indiana tornado in March. However, most of us don't know her name or the details of her story. Stephanie Decker wrapped her eight-year-old son and five-year-old daughter in a blanket, and used her own body as a shield from the huge pieces of debris that used to be their home. Decker relived the horror during the height of the devasation: "They're screaming, 'Mommy, I … [Read more...]

It was Brian that really wanted one. In the end I am happy we had one! We chose February 3rd because it was my grandparents' … [Read more...]

Santa For Families That Don’t “Do” Santa
I think Santa is a lot of fun....so do my kids. We all know he isn't real. I've come to learn there are different Santa familes: Family 1: Hardcore Santa-ers. Go big or go home. I even think the adults may believe in him. Family 2: The Anti-Santa-ers. The jolly rosie-cheeked man is about as accepted in this house as a burglar. Family 3: Some may say lukewarm Santa-ers? Keeping with the secular tradition of Santa with the children fully aware that it is a game and tradition that parents … [Read more...]
Fasting With Children
Our whole family is fasting for my mom, right now Due to certain deadlines I had to switch my fast to cutting out my nightly dessert (dessert is pretty equal with the internet for me)... Brian gave up red meat Fasting with children has been such a learning experience for me. Samuel and Aram both gave up Angry Birds. We are easing in to having them understand fasting. Right now, they understand when they feel the urge to play the game they should pray for grandma. They are pros … [Read more...]
Internet Fast- Prayers Please

Hey Everyone, My parents came down to watch the boys This weekend. It was Brian's 30th birthday and we went to Las Vegas with friends. On Thursday I got a very worried call from my sister about some alarming symptoms my mom has been having. My mom wasn't concerned, but over the weekend we discovered a little more about what has been going on. My moms symptoms fit the description for Paget's Disease (a rare breast cancer)- We are praying it is just an infection. She is going to … [Read more...]
